A 45-minute standoff on Highway 97 near Sapulpa ended Monday morning with the arrest of Alan Vanderwagen, a suspect wanted on multiple charges.
The incident temporarily shut down both highway directions, drawing significant law enforcement presence and public attention.
What Happened on Highway 97?
U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest Vanderwagen during a traffic stop south of Prattville. According to authorities, Vanderwagen refused to exit his truck, prompting a standoff that lasted nearly an hour. To ensure public safety, law enforcement closed Highway 97 in both directions during the confrontation.
With assistance from Sapulpa Police and the Creek County Sheriff’s Office, the Marshals surrounded the vehicle and negotiated Vanderwagen’s surrender.
Why Was Alan Vanderwagen Wanted?
Vanderwagen was wanted on a Creek County warrant for grand larceny and possession of stolen property. According to court documents, Vanderwagen is accused of stealing an $85,000 tiny home in November.
Investigators revealed that the theft was captured on a neighbor's surveillance camera, which showed three individuals breaking into the victim's property by cutting a lock on a gate. The footage allegedly depicts the group towing the tiny home off the property.
