She pledged to assist with a smooth leadership transition and reaffirmed her commitment to public safety and criminal justice innovation.

The full memorandum can be read below:

"After much thought and reflection, I am submitting my formal resignation as Chief Executive Officer of the Oklahoma County Detention Center, effective February 7, 2025. This decision has not been made lightly, nor is it a reaction to recent challenges. It is the result of several weeks of careful deliberation and a desire to prioritize my family life, spiritual growth, and personal wellbeing. While stepping away from this role is difficult, I know it is the right step for me and my loved ones at this time. Serving in this capacity has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am deeply grateful for the support and partnership of the Board of Trustees. Your guidance, shared expertise, and unwavering commitment to the mission of this facility have been invaluable, and I hold each of you in the highest regard. I also want to take a moment to express my profound admiration for the dedicated staff and leadership team at the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Every day, they face immense pressures yet continue to show courage, professionalism, and compassion. It has been a privilege to work alongside such an extraordinary team, and I encourage the board and community to continue advocating for them. They are the heart of this facility, and any long-term success will depend on supporting their well-being and professional growth. Furthermore, I urge the county and city governments to authentically recognize the vital role this detention center plays in creating a safer community. This facility is more than a place of confinement - it is an opportunity to invest in individuals who are often at their lowest points and, by doing so, to positively impact public safety and reduce recidivism. A genuine, long-term commitment to improving conditions, resources, and services at the detention center can transform lives and benefit the entire community. Over the coming weeks, I will focus on ensuring a smooth and seamless transition. I remain fully committed to preparing the team for continued progress. While I will no longer be serving as CEO, my dedication to public safety and innovative approaches in the criminal justice field will remain steadfast. Thank you for entrusting me with this important role. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and confident that the detention center will continue to move forward in a positive direction. With deepest respect and gratitude, Brandi C. Garner"

In a statement Joe M. Allbaugh, Chairman of the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority said.

“Brandi Garner has submitted her resignation as Chief Executive Officer of the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Her service to the staff and residents is deeply appreciated. This job is extremely difficult and demanding on both the CEO and her family. As she finishes her tenure over the next 30 days, my fellow trustees and I will support her as she closes out important projects. The search for her replacement will begin immediately.”
